President Donald Trump issued a statement Sunday in response to the news that former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, extending well wishes and prayers for a swift recovery.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

The message came just hours after Biden’s personal office released a statement confirming the former president had been diagnosed with prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bone—an aggressive and advanced form of the disease. According to the statement, Biden had recently undergone evaluation after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. A follow-up exam revealed a prostate nodule, leading to the cancer diagnosis.

Doctors assigned Biden a Gleason score of 9, classified as Grade Group 5—the most severe category used in prostate cancer diagnosis. Despite the seriousness of the case, his physicians noted the disease is hormone-sensitive, which may allow for more effective treatment options moving forward.

“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement said. The news has sparked concern and sympathy across the political spectrum.

Vice President Kamala Harris responded with a heartfelt message of support, writing, “Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”

Republican leaders also issued supportive statements. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) all echoed a similar sentiment: setting politics aside and wishing Biden strength during his battle with cancer.

Though Trump and Biden have clashed fiercely in the political arena—especially during the 2020 election and the early stages of the 2024 campaign—Trump’s message stood out for its civility. At a time when tensions between the two political camps often dominate the headlines, Trump’s statement served as a rare moment of decency in an increasingly polarized climate.

The 81-year-old former president is now facing a critical health battle, one that will undoubtedly cast a shadow over the Democratic Party’s future. With Biden already out of office and Democrats struggling to rally around a clear 2028 frontrunner, the timing of his diagnosis may further complicate internal dynamics for the party.

Still, Biden remains under medical supervision and is currently considering treatment options. While his office has not confirmed whether he’ll undergo surgery, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy, officials emphasized that the former president is optimistic and determined to fight.

Trump’s reaction underscores the gravity of the diagnosis, reminding Americans that behind the politics are real lives, real families, and shared humanity. Whether future statements maintain that tone remains to be seen—but for now, the country watches and waits as Biden prepares for the battle ahead.
